Benefits of Meditation in Every Season

I don’t know about you, but this time of year it’s hard for me to feel motivated. I’m one of those people affected when the seasons change from summer to fall/winter. During the warmer months when the sun shines through my window and wakes me up before my alarm, I’m super excited to start my day and take on the world. However, once the fall approaches, and when it’s still dark outside in the mornings, it make me want nothing more than to hit the snooze button, and cuddle up under my blankets. Since I can’t lay in bed all day, I needed to make it a priority to seek and incorporate positive self-care habits to my routine, so I can start the day off on the best foot possible.

Did you know there are tremendous emotional and physical benefits to meditation? Now more than ever your health, both emotionally and physically, are crucial to living your best life. You don't become healthy by chance. You become healthy by choice. You need to make deliberate choices, and create habits that will improve your life. One choice to consider, is the practice of meditation. Many have misconceptions about meditation. At its core, meditation is a practice of connecting with yourself, by connecting with your breath. The ability to breathe deeply and fully helps with your overall health.

Meditation can be done whenever it’s most convenient for you. This can be in the mornings, afternoons, or evenings. It is recommended to do your meditation in the morning if you need a bit of a gentle boost. Mediations can vary in time length, and there is no right or wrong amount of time to meditate. You can meditate for 10 minutes or an hour. It’s completely up to you.

I typically begin my mornings, by meditating and I do it in bed. I know this may sound dangerous with the risk to fall back asleep, but I find it an easy way to ease out of sleep, and start my day. You can leisurely just sit up in bed, cross your legs in front of you and put on a guided meditation. Looking for a guided meditation? There are several on YouTube, the Calm app, or check out one of my guided meditation on my Instagram: @iamnamastej. Having even a couple of minutes to cultivate your awareness and compassion through meditation can have profound effects on your psyche, and tremendous benefits for your day.

Namaste J

Hi! I’m Namaste J, a corporate professional turned certified yoga instructor & meditation coach based in Atlanta, GA.

I began practicing yoga in 2004 after the passing of my father. During that difficult time, yoga helped me heal my mind, body, and spirit, and I fell in love with the overwhelming gratitude and acceptance it made me feel. It allowed me to channel my emotions in a positive way, and I was able to journey through depression and grief to become a healthier, happier me. Since that time, I’ve continued my yoga practice to improve my wellbeing, and in 2019 I earned my certification in Vinyasa yoga.
